Are they bringing back the CX-7? Or maybe a small 6- or 7-seater to fill the void the 5 left? “Toyota and Mazda will spend $1.9 billion on a new factory in Alabama that will produce the Corolla and an unnamed new Mazda crossover.” “ We are actually going to introduce a totally new and different type of SUV ,” he said. “ R&D is coordinating with our North American operations on that right now. ”

That’d be nice, but that would be built in the same place as the CX-5. Since it’s a shared production facility, I’m wondering if this new Mazda will actually ride on a Corolla chassis... The CX-5 is already on the 3 chassis; is the Corolla any longer than the 3?

They’re probably going to build some hybrid that’s Rav4 based.

I love our CX-5, so I’m curious to see what it will be.
How’s the job hunt going?

I don’t know that there’s necessarily a gap between the CX-5 and CX-9 that needs to be filled. Most mainstream non-luxury brands have landed on a 3 crossover lineup of mini, supersize compact, and 3-row.
Mazda has the uselessly too-mini CX-3, the regular compact CX-5, and small-ish 3-row CX-9. Where’s the gap in that lineup?
I mean, yeah, some brands do have more crowded crossover lineups than Mazda, with a large/midsize 5-seater, such as:
Ford Edge, EcoSport (mini), Escape (non-supersize compact), and Explorer (3-row).
Jeep Grand Cherokee, Renegade (mini), Compass (compact compact), Cherokee (supersize compact), Wrangler (Wrangler).
Hyundai Santa Fe Sport (smallish midsize only marginally bigger than the supersize compacts), Kona (mini), Tucson (compact compact), Santa Fe (3-row).
Nissan Murano, Kicks (mini), Rogue Sport (compact compact), Rogue (supersize compact), and Pathfinder (3-row).
Subaru Outback (yes it’s actually a lifted Legacy wagon that no longer exists in non-lifted form), Crosstrek (mini but yes it’s actually a lifted Impreza hatchback), Forester (almost supersize compact), Ascent (3-row).
And then you have Mitsubishi with their random assortment of size segments targeted at the COME ON DOWN AND BUY A BRAND NEW CAR WITH A WARRANTY WE APPROVE ANYONE FOR 84 MONTH FINANCING market: Outlander (3-row supersize compact maybe midsize), Outlander Sport (compact compact), Eclipse Cross (mini- SHIT ).

No there’s really not, but Mazda is trying to move upmarket (see X1, X2, X3, X4, X5, X6...). The CX-5 starts at $24k, the CX-9 starts at $32k, so there is room, at least on price if not size, for something starting ~$28k, and with the CX-5 as their best-seller, they want to catch as many buyers near there as possible.

We loved our CX-9 for 190k miles, and then sold it to my sister.
Happily employed for 2+ years, so... not going at all. =)

No problem :)
And thanks! When my girls get a little older, they are enjoying Lego sets quite a bit already at 2 and 5, I look forward to building more with them.
